My Goals for Summer

This week I'm linking up with I Heart 3rd Grade in her first week of the Weekly Summer Link-Up. We will be focusing on our goals for the summer. Feel free to jump in and link up by heading over to her page and adding your link to your blog.

Get a Hang of this Mommy Thing

My first goal for the summer is to meet my little girl and start to get a hang of this mommy thing! Baby B was supposed to arrive May 14 but we are still eagerly awaiting her arrival. I'm scheduled to be induced on May 28 if she still hasn't decided to make her entrance on her own.

I'm really excited that she will be born in the summer because it give me time to bond with her and my husband without having to worry, to much, about school and my students. I've been on maternity leave since May 6 (thinking she would be here earlier rather than later) and that has allowed me to get a little planning for next year done so I will not have to worry about it once my precious bundle of joy is finally here!

I hope to have her on sleep schedule by the time work starts back the last week of July. I know I'm probably setting the bar high, but hey isn't that what teachers do?!

Map Out My School Year

I've seen so many people who map out their entire school year and I'm always so jealous of these teachers! This was my first year as a classroom teacher so I didn't really think anything about mapping it out over the summer. Boy was I in for a mess when I realized how many standards I would have to cover for 5 different subject areas. Not having a clear view of what was to come drove me insane! It was also hard because my team consisted of 6 teachers. Having 6 different classrooms trying to plan and stay on the same pace all year was a nightmare!

This year I plan on having my curriculum already mapped out! I know my admin expects each classroom to be on pretty common grounds but sometimes you just have to be realistic and know that's not going to happen; especially when they group the classes they way they do: gifted, talent development, special education, ESOL, and behavior problems are all in separate class but the teachers are expected to be mirror imaging each other? Yea, it's a little crazy but I'll just do what is best for my group and go from there!

The first area I plan on mapping out is my Social Studies curriculum. I am responsible for creating the lesson plans for S.S. so it will be nice to see what is coming up and how long each topic will be give. I honestly can't wait to start working on this!

Here's a couple of different ideas for how to map out your year! (Just click the pictures to go to the links)

Buy a House

My 3rd and final goal is to buy my first house! My husband and I have been looking for over 2 years and just haven't found "the one" yet. We actually put in an offer, and had it accepted, last week only to find that the house had some very serious drainage issues and and it was something that we didn't feel like dealing with. There's another house that we've had our eyes on and we plan to make on offer on this one too. The only problem.... Baby B is due the day that our real estate agent is able to see us! I'm not really sure what we are going to do about that little problem, I may just have to send hubby to her office to get everything ironed out and then see if they can meet me or fax me the paperwork.

Well, that's it for me! What are your summer goals? Leave a comment or head over to I Heart 3rd Grade and link up. Happy Summer Blogging!

  1. Hi Shanon!

Thank you so much for linking up to my very first linky party! I am so glad to have you collaborating!

I LOVE your curriculum mapping idea! WOW! WOW! WOW! I am so going to look into this further. I am in Canada, so our systems are a little different... but I normally plan 1 unit at a time and go from there. The idea of mapping everything out like you have here is AMAZING! I just wonder if I am organized to put it all together!

Best of luck with the birth of your little girl! I am a mother of 3 and my first decided to arrive late as well! She decided to make her entrance on her own 1 week after my due date. I guess she didn't want to share the same birth month as me! lol! She was born during the first week of August - and her personality is more suited to a Leo then a Cancer!!!

Sending you positive vibes for a safe and healthy delivery! And just to be a little selfish, I hope to see you link up again throughout the summer ;-)

  2. Hi I found your blog through the link-up!

Due May 14th and still waiting! Ahh! Best of wishes for you and your little one. That is a rather big goal for the summer but I best it'll be the most rewarding!

    1. Hi Kayla,

I hope that your little one has made their appearance by now! Baby Annie arrived on May 29 at 1:51 after 23 hours of labor and being rushed to an emergency c-section because pushing for 1.5 hours was getting us nowhere.

I haven't made any progress on the curriculum mapping; I guess that was a BIG goal with a little one on the way.

Best of luck to you and your little one!
