The hop is set up as a loop, so you may start anywhere along the hop, but if you would like to start at the beginning you are in the right place; A Day In The Life of A Title I Teacher's blog.  This is also where you will come after you finish the hop to enter the giveaway!

As educators, we all know that reading truly is a gift! I love to read, just ask my husband or anyone else who knows me. I can't even imagine what life would be like without the skills required to pick up a book and read it for fun. However, there are many students in the U.S. and around the world who don't have these required skills. They struggle with reading daily. They say things like "I hate reading" or "I can't read" or any other hundreds of excuses you've heard when they are struggling.

I work with the lowest 10% of students, in each grade level, and can I say that it's probably the most challenging job I have ever had and will ever have? Here's a quick example of the struggling readers I work with: One of my 3rd grade boys reads at a .4 reading level, can only read 10 words correctly per minute, doesn't know any of his sight-words, and doesn't know most of his letter sounds! I bet you can imagine the things he says about reading. He "hates it." I've been working with him all year and he is improving and he's starting to like reading a little more each day. The most important gift I could ever give this child is the gift of reading! Each day that I walk into my school I know that there will be struggles. I know that my lessons will not be as perfect as I imagine them to be. I know that I will not be able to do all of the fun activities, crafts, etc. that other teachers get to do. But I also know that I am making a difference in a child's life. I know that with my help each of my 80 students will become better readers and thus better students. I know that I am helping them in a way that no one else is! I am giving them the best gift in the world... The Gift of Reading!

Now, I know you all came here to get your gifts. Thank you for sticking through my little spill. I just love my students and I sometimes I can't help but tell you all a little about them. My gift to you and to your students is a fun sight words center activity. This activity would be perfect for upper kindergarten, 1st grade, and struggling readers in 2nd grade or higher. I actually use it with my 3rd graders and they love it! I know that your students will love it too!

Oh and don't forget to collect all the letters along the way. You will use these letters to fill out the mystery quote and enter it at the end of the hop enter the giveaway! You can find the form here

  1. Shannon,
When do the "Gifts" and "Freebies" become free? Yours and the next stop (Hanging out in First) are not showing free - they are showing as $3.00. I didn't look past your first two stops yet. Maybe I'm too early for the Blog Hop???

    1. I would have never though of middle grades! I hope they enjoy it =D I'll have to show it to my mother, she's a 6th grade reading teacher and has some very below level students who may benefit from using these. Be sure to check out my other set's too! I have these games for pre-primmer - 3rd grade!

  7. Out of all the blog hops I've done (they're becoming a mild addiction) this was one of my favorites! I can't thank you, and everyone who contributed, enough for all the great resources. While the freebies are great, I think the best thing from the hop has been the newly found blogs that will be great resources in the future! Thanks again :)
